The Elgin Police Department (EPD), along with the help of Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), arrested an Elgin man last week after private citizen gave police a tip.

Police recovered two shotguns and five handguns at the Kelly Street, Elgin residence. The man, being a convicted felon, cannot legally have a firearm, officials said.

After the man was taken to EPD, he admitted ownership of the weapons. He also said he had another weapon at his residence and gave officers permission to search his residence and outbuildings

During the search, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of crack cocaine were found in the residence. Another rifle was located in a brown storage building in the back yard, along with multiple tools sets, electrical devices, chain saws and weed eaters. In a small camper in the back side yard, several air conditioners, paint guns and other items were found. A yellow moped was also found with a VIN that is not on file with the switch punched. These items are suspected to be stolen and were taken into police storage until the rightful owners can be located.

“This investigation and arrest is a direct result of many citizen complaints about drug trafficking at the Kelly Street residence,” EPD Chief Harold Brown said. “This arrest is the direct result of citizens making reports and taking the initiative of relaying information to the Police Department.”

Robert Wood Jr. has been charged multiple times by the EPD and the KCSO dating back to 1996 with drug related charges. He has charges from 2008 still pending and drug charges made in 2010 were recently dismissed. He is currently housed in the Kershaw County Detention Center charged with; Possession of Crack Cocaine, Receiving Stolen Goods, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of a Pistol.
