Two females were seen on a security camera shoplifting items from an Elgin store by concealing them in their purses.

An Oldsmobile was stolen from an Elgin man’s home while he was out of town.

After pulling over a vehicle for disregarding a stop sign, police searched the vehicle of an Elgin man and found a bag of marijuana. The man was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.

When an Elgin woman came home from work she discovered that there were pry marks on the back door and the lock fell out when she opened it. She found Direct TV receiver boxes missing from her house.

A 35-year-old man living on Lower Branch Lane near Elgin said his 31-year-old common-law wife struck him with her car as she was leaving. An Elgin Police Department officer and KCSO deputy stopped the woman who claimed she had only been trying to get away from her husband and had not hit him. The man admitted he never collided with the car but that when he went to get out of the vehicle’s path, he was forced into a fence hitting his groin. EMS arrived on the scene and transported the man to the hospital. The woman was released from the scene.

Deputies arrested a 28-year-old man for child neglect Friday after a 2-year-old boy was found walking down Jan Street in Elgin. A neighboring couple found the boy and called deputies who -- after several attempts to get someone to come to the door of the boy’s house -- located the man asleep in a bedroom. He claimed to have drunk a couple of beers and then went to rest but someone was supposed to watch the boy and his 5-year-old sibling. Family members arriving on the scene told deputies the man was the only one charged with watching the boys.

Someone stole four air conditioning units from a Wildwood Lane, Lugoff, home. The victim said when they went inside they realized the home had been “destroyed” because the suspects had “thrown everything around” and stolen a stereo system, stove, refrigerator and 50 CDs.

A Lugoff man claimed a relative forced him off the road on Spears Creek Road in Lugoff. The victim claimed this was not the first time this had happened.

Incident reports are provided by the Elgin Police Department and Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office and are a matter of public record under the S.C. Freedom of Information Act. If the WWC makes a mistake, it will correct it upon verification with the appropriate law enforcement agency. Readers are cautioned that other individuals may have similar or identical names as those contained in incident reports. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
